It’s been a long COVID-19 experience for all of us. What started as an opportunity to be in the house, relax with family, and work from home in our sweats, quickly turned into long days and weekends at home with nothing to do. If you were bored in the house, there are some skills you could have picked up during quarantine. (Cool thing is, you can pick them up now too!)
Self-Care Routine
When was the last time you woke up in the morning and took some time for yourself? Starting a new self-care routine can be a game-changer for your day. Especially when it comes to self-care for men, who typically have a bad habit of not prioritizing themselves, finding cool options to amplify ourselves is a great payoff! This can include working out, saying daily affirmations, stretching, meditating, journaling, cooking, reading, planting, or even taking some time for your morning grooming. Identify the actions that make you feel good and make it a routine to get them done.
Reliable Barber
During the shutdown, it’s likely that your local barbershop was closed. To evade resorting to an online shave club and just going bald, this left us to figure out what to do with a pair of clippers to keep our fades, beards, and cuts looking fresh. Thankfully sites like YouTube offer plenty of lessons on hair care for free. This SOSS® video on how to get 360 waves using the natural Champion Atlantic Wave Crème is a perfect example. Make sure you are grabbing the right hair care products so you can have them on hand while you learn online.
Skin Care Routine
Taking care of your skin is just as important as taking care of your health. Creating a good skincare routine means finding a selection of products that work best for you. The SOSS® skincare routine includes cleansing, exfoliating, hydrating, protecting, and nourishing the skin. It only takes 5 minutes in the morning and at night to upgrade your skincare game.
Hair Care Routine
No one wants dry, brittle, itchy hair so it’s important to develop a hair care routine. You’ll want your routine to include products that clean, hydrate, and make the hair shine, not leave it feeling oily and heavy. Products like the Champion Waves Essentials and the SOSS® Brush are tools you can include in your daily routine.
A Fruitful Library
Quarantine was the perfect time to pick up a book and start reading. In order to easily grab a book and dive in, you have to have a library. Building your library will not only encourage you to read, but can also encourage other members of your family, like your children persay, to start reading more books. Put down the phone and pick up a book. Lead by example so the younger generations will follow.
Here are some of our best quarantine reads:
- A Promised Land by Barack Obama
- The Autobiography of Malcolm X: As Told to Alex Haley
- Can’t Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds by David Goggins
- Retired @ 24: How I Left My Day Job to Do My Life’s Work by Ivan Gaskin
- Too Black for the Building by M. Anderson
- Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Build Something!
When was the last time you dusted off the toolbox in the garage or got your hands dirty with a tune-up for the car? Looks like it’s time for a new project. Try building a new wood deck outside, installing a new toy for the kids, or even take a shot at some car maintenance. Find a how-to guide online, or invite a handy-friend over to show you the ropes. After you get your hands dirty with these projects, clean them off with our SOSS® Bar and moisturize (of course) with our Body Butter.
If you didn’t develop any of these skills during quarantine, now is still the perfect time to start on one – or all – of them. Each skill will help elevate your peace and leave you feeling successful and accomplished.
